As remote collaboration becomes the norm and cloud storage services make backups available to everyone, it’s common to have multiple versions of the same file with small differences that aren’t easily recognizable.

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscope review

Kaleidoscope is designed to help you spot these differences at a glance and help you deal with potential conflicts. It is suitable for text, images, folders and source code and has features for both ordinary users and developers.

When you upload two documents, you’ll see them side by side, and the differences are highlighted using a simple color code: green for additions, blue for changes, and red for missing text. There are many other display modes that may be more or less favorable for certain files.

To resolve conflicts, simply select change and choose whether to keep the version on the left or right. Alternatively, you can choose the triple merge method, which creates a new file in the center and existing documents on either side; then choose what you want to keep from both files.

There are several ways to compare images. In the single view, one item is placed on top of another and their order is rotated at a specified interval. The split view is very simple, with the interesting possibility of freely moving the two ends of the interval. The application can also compute a difference mask to detect very small changes.

Management is easy and you can load more than two images at a time – they are all visible on the file shelf and can be added for comparison if required.

Whether it’s a regular file folder or the source code of a project, you can see which files are in one place and which are missing or changed in another. This process is very similar to document change management.

Kaleidoscope also offers integration with version control systems such as Git, allowing you to track changes in your repositories.

If you need a powerful and versatile comparison tool, Kaleidoscope has a lot to offer. You can use it for everything from documents and images to folders and source code repositories, and it can handle anything you give it.

However, it does require a subscription, so it may not be the best choice for users who want a simple comparison tool and don’t need its more advanced developer-focused features.
